Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ’s

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your individual goals and circumstances. Some clients find a few sessions helpful for specific concerns, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. This can be discussed together at any time.

Do you offer telehealth only?
Yes. SolacePsych operates exclusively via telehealth sessions for adults across Australia. This allows you to access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

Do I need a referral to see you?
You don’t need a referral to book an appointment - you’re welcome to contact SolacePsych directly and self-refer.

If you’d like to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and referral letter from your GP. Your GP can prepare this during a standard appointment. The plan allows you to claim rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

How do I claim my Medicare rebate?
Once your session fee is paid, SolacePsych can process your rebate on your behalf through Medicare’s online system. The rebate (currently $98.95 per session) is usually deposited into your nominated bank account within a few business days.

Can I use my Mental Health Care Plan for telehealth?
Yes. Medicare rebates apply to telehealth sessions.

What if I don’t have a Mental Health Care Plan?
You can still book and attend sessions privately without a referral. You’ll simply pay the full session fee, and rebates won’t apply. Some clients prefer this option for flexibility and privacy.

What if I’m running late?
If you join late, your session will still finish at the scheduled time to respect other appointments.

Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share is confidential, except where there is risk of harm or a legal obligation to disclose. These limits are explained in your first session.

Do you see children or couples?
SolacePsych offers telehealth appointments for adults (18 years and older) only. SolacePsych does not currently offer telehealth therapy for children or couples, but suitable referral options can be suggested if needed.

Do you provide reports or support for court-related matters?
SolacePsych does not provide assessments, reports, or therapy for legal or forensic purposes. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Court-ordered psychological reports or treatment

  • Fitness-for-work or capacity evaluations

  • Family court, custody, or parenting assessments

  • Criminal or offender-related matters

  • Personal injury or medico-legal reports

For support in these areas, it’s recommended that you contact a forensic psychologist or independent assessor who specialises in legal and court-related assessments and interventions.

What if I need urgent support?
SolacePsych is not a crisis service. If you’re in immediate distress or need urgent help, please contact Lifeline (13 11 14), Suicide Call Back Service (1300 659 467), or attend your nearest emergency department.
